Hey kid,

You don’t know me yet, but you will, some years later. You and I, we are the same person, with a few changes.

I have so many things to tell you. I wish I could tell you all of this in person, but, that will probably scare the crap out of you, and then Mummy will kill me. So, not a good idea, even if time travel is ever possible.

First of all, never stop reading. There are some AMAZING books, in store for you. You are in for a hell of a ride. But, girlie, you need to work on your timing. Reading the Da Vinci Code, right before your exams, is a recipe for disaster. Also, reading serial killer mysteries when you are pregnant is a big no-no. But, that is a story for another day.

Secondly, I have been told that happiness is a matter of choice. That choice colours the rest of our life. Our mind steers us towards actions that end up making us happy. Guess what? We make that choice before the age of ten.

So, you crazy kid, thank you, for choosing happiness. That has come in really handy. You will NOT believe some of the stuff that’s been happening!

Keep writing! That’s coming in handy too. You are halfway through your first book, but, you have the attention span of a fly! Please work on that.

Also, where on earth have you hidden the rejection letter from Uncle Pai of Tinkle? I want it! You better not have lost it, or you will be cursing yourself 24 years later. Please keep it safe, because it is really precious. Every time I doubt my writing skills, I want to read his encouraging words.

I have good news for you. One day, you will meet a guy, who has more faith in your writing skills, than you do. He really believes that you will be a published author someday. His faith will make you get off that lazy ass, and write some more.

So, even if you misplace your creativity for a while, don’t cry. Your time will come. You will find your words again.
That’s the best thing about life. There are no limits to what you can do, bar those that you place on yourself.

Don’t fret about what is out of your control. Observe everything, and enjoy life. You might want to write about it, someday.

Lots of love,
Your 34 year old self.

  1. A very morale boosting letter, if ever there was one. Thankfully Mummy has not come around to killing you. And kudos to the person who has faith in your writing skills. I think these blogs might just justify that. Keep up the good work.

  3. Thats a lovely letter- there are so many things I want to tell my younger self as well. I feel as I get older I realise how important self worth and loving myself like crazy are. Wish I could turn the wheels of time and tel myself this a few years back when I went through bouts of self doubt. Good luck on the book!

  5. Beautiful post! Positive reinforcements work best for a ten-year-old and this letter has it aplenty, Apeksha! It is a blessing to be surrounded by a loving family that encourages you to write and has faith in you! That letter from Uncle Pai ought to be treasured! Not every ten- year-old can say they got one! 🙂
